Melcalin Osteopenia and Osteoporosis are disorders characterized by a reduction in bone mass and a deterioration of the bone tissue micro-architecture which induces an increased bone fragility, with a consequent increased risk of fracture. Osteopenia and osteoporosis can be prevented with simple interventions that include proper nutrition, adequate physical activity and appropriate supplementation.
Several studies have demonstrated the fundamental role of calcium and vitamin D for bone health showing that both have the ability to prevent bone loss and to reduce the risk of fractures. Equally important is magnesium, the lack of which plays a key role in the onset of osteoporosis: recent studies suggest that a magnesium supplementation increases bone density and stops bone loss in 80% of patients with osteoporosis. In addition, magnesium, plays an important role in the homeostasis of calcium.
